After losing his ex-wife and the mother of his children in a car accident in 2007, he looked toward his family for inspiration. That year, Childs renamed his annual tournament the Pamela B. Childs Memorial in her honor.
Childs said that after the birth of his grandson, Collin Gibson, in 2008, he found a cause worth supporting: the Ronald McDonald House Charities."
